SSL is a layer that runs on-top of the TCP/IP model. You need to install a third party security certificate convert plain text (unencrypted) HTTP to HTTPS(encrypted format). .

Unfortunately i dont have the guide, i only learn of the staff when doing the OCMJEA. Depending on the technology which you are using HTTPS has a performance degradation cause by encryption/decryption of data. please can you elaborate further what technologies you have for web server, application server, db server in your environment.
